Your Guide to Buying a Magnifying Glass

Magnifying glasses are useful in all sorts of situations: if you want to read small print, or do some precision work. There are hand-held magnifying glasses, which you hold in one hand while holding the object in the other hand. For example, there are bar and sheet readers, which magnify a line or an entire page of text, for easier viewing. Some of those come with a lamp as well, to make it even less of a strain on the eyes. Then there are folding pocket magnifiers, which fold into a carrying case. There are also jeweler's loupes, which a jeweler holds in his/her eye while looking at a piece or jewelry, or when repairing a watch. There are also magnifying visors, and other hands-free magnifiers, which free up your hands for other work. Take note of the magnification of the lens, which will typically be given in "powers": "6x" therefore indicates that it multiplies the object 6 times.
