From the 1960s animated series, The Jetsons
The 1960s futuristic Hanna-Barbera cartoon series, The Jetsons, envisioned a world where robots would do our house chores for us. Today’s robot vacuums, robot mops, and hybrid mop vacuums don’t have the same look as what they dreamed of back then. But you can find robot vacuums with mops that have some amazing capabilities!
Robot mop vacuums have enough sophistication to systematically go through your home, being able to differentiate between carpets, rugs, and hardwood or tile floors. They can be programmed using a smartphone app, so that you concentrate on a single room, or clean the entire house when you’re asleep or at work!
Although they all look quite similar from the outside, robot vacuums with a mop feature can still vary considerably in their capabilities, such as suction power, battery life, tank size, and dirt cup capacity. We’ll go through some of the items in the MSN list of the best robot vacuums with mops, to help you know what’s available. (You can also check out other great cleaning products among the MSN buying guides.) You’ll be pleasantly surprised at what they can do, and at amazingly affordable prices!
There are lots of interesting features in robot mop vacuums (the HomeViz G1 Robot Vacuum with Mop even has an aromatherapy strip, that disperses an essential oil in the air while mopping!). But we can classify them by how they navigate around the house:
Magnetic strips: Some require you to lay down a magnetic strip, to give the robot a signal not to pass a certain line. That way, you can be sure that it won’t collide with delicate objects. The Kyvol Cybovac E31 Robot Vacuum works in this manner. ((It also has a smartphone app, as well as Alexa and Google Assistant.)

Routing by means of app/voice commands: Depending on the robot mop vacuum, you can program it either by means of a smartphone app or even by voice commands, such as Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. The Ecovacs Deebot U2SE Robot Vacuum and Mop uses WiFi and an app for navigation.

Adaptive routing: Some robot mop vacuums are so advanced, that they “learn” the layout of your home! They then use this information to choose the most efficient path on their next run through. An example is the Roborock S6 Robot Vacuum and Mop.

Here are some of the main features of robot vacuums with a mop:
Battery life: You’ll want a robot mop vacuum that can handle the entire floor in one go. A robot with a battery life of 60 minutes is good for a small apartment. If you have a bigger house, you might need a robot with 90 minutes or more of battery life. The Roborock S6 is really exceptional in this area. It’s capable of cleaning for three hours in quiet mode! Also, most robots are programmed to go back to their charging station when their battery is low, in order to get recharged.
Suction: As with any vacuum, you’ll want to ensure that your robot mop vacuum has powerful suction. The suction is usually given in units of Pascals (=Force/square meter). A vacuum with 2000 Pascals of suction will be quite adequate. That’s enough to pick up an object as big as a AA battery!
Dust bin capacity: The dust bin collects the dust from vacuuming. You’ll want to get a device with a large dust bin. One model with a large dust bin is the Roborock E4 Robot Vacuum Cleaner, with a 640 ml capacity.
Water capacity: The robot mop vacuum sprays water on the floor, and then proceeds to mop it up with a cloth attached to the base. But you have to fill the water tank before use. The Ecovacs Deebot U2SE has a very large tank that holds 300 milliliters of water–enough to mop an area of 2000 square feet.
Disposable or reusable cloth: Some mop vacuums use disposable cloths, while others use a cloth that you can rinse and reuse. Buying replacement cloths are an additional expense that might make you lean in the direction of a robot that uses a reusable cloth.
Obstacle avoidance: Look for a robot mop vacuum that has the ability to avoid obstacles, as well as cliff sensors to not fall down the stairs. Many use a laser sensor for navigation, so as to avoid accidents such as the “poopocalypse”, where a Roomba robot vacuum spread dog droppings all over the rug!!
A robot mop vacuum is great for getting to every spot in your house, even in the corners, along walls, and under furniture. But unfortunately, a robot mop vacuum also has its limitations:
Clear the path before starting the device: You’ll need to clear the way for the robot mop vacuum before starting it, as much as possible. Stack chairs, or put them on the table. Also remove any electrical cords, which the robot may perceive as an obstacle. If you don’t, your robot may get stuck cleaning the same spot over and over again!
Can’t remove ground-in stains: A robotic mop vacuum will wet your floor, scrub it a bit, and keep grime from accumulating. But for a stubborn, dried-up stain, you may have to resort to the traditional mop, which allows you to apply as much cleaning fluid and as much pressure as is necessary.
Some use only water: Many robot mop vacuums use only water to clean the floor, without any cleaning fluid. This might not work well when you want to get rid of a greasy stain. Grease will need some sort of soap to break it up. Don’t try adding a cleaning solution to your robot, if it’s not designed for it. That can damage the delicate electronics inside.
Need good WiFi signal: We mentioned that many robot mop vacuums can be programmed with a smartphone app. However, if there are spots in your house where the WiFi is weak, your robot might get stuck along the way. In that case, a remote control might be preferable.
We went through some of the major features of robot vacuums with mops in the MSN list. They might not do a very thorough cleaning, but they will pick up spills and debris, and wash off any spots on the floor. You can program them to work at a convenient time, like during bedtime, so that you’ll wake up to an immaculate home!
