With so many electronic devices in our homes to entertain us, it’s a challenge to get your kids to go outside and get some exercise and fresh air. Getting them into baseball is a great option. But, it also has its challenges. If you want to engage your children in playing baseball with professional equipment, you’d have to wait until they’re at least 9 years old until they’re able to pick and swing even a 20-ounce bat. And throwing around a real baseball can be dangerous for little kids. On the other hand, T-ball sets include a lighter bat and ball, as well as the batting tee (from whence T-ball gets its name), to make it easier to hit.
We’ll go through the construction and features of some of the items in the MSN list of the 10 best T-ball sets. You’ll discover that they can get your kids excited about baseball. And the enthusiasm can be infectious!
(You can also check out other sports-related products among the MSN buying guides.)
We can distinguish between T-ball sets for young children, for little league practice, and even for adults.
For toddlers: These may have an oversized bat and ball, to allow very young children to learn how to swing, and get the satisfaction of hitting the ball as well. The set can be from plastic, like the Vokodo T-Ball Set For Toddlers And Kids Baseball Tee Game. It comes with three balls, which you can store away in the base.

For older children: There are also T-ball sets that allow you to use an official T-ball baseball. The Avail 16.5” Kids Foam T-Ball Baseball Set includes 4 foam rubber balls, with one that looks like a baseball, measuring 2.76” in diameter.

For professional practice: There are also professional T-ball sets, whose height can be adjusted to practice hitting low or high pitches. An example is the Tanner Tee Premium Baseball/Softball Batting Tee, whose height can be set anywhere from 26” to 43” high.

Adjustable height: You certainly want to be able to adjust the height of the batting tee. The Liberry Adjustable T-Ball Set allows you to screw on extension tubes, to raise the height anywhere from 12” to 32” off the ground. You also fill the base with sand or water, to ensure that it’s stable. (The stability is an important factor when purchasing any batting tee.)

Combo T-ball sets: There are some T-ball sets that incorporate other skills and sports as well. The Step2 Toddler 2-in-1 T-Ball and Golf Backyard Play Set also includes a golf club, and the home plate can be used as a putting green!

Another combo T-ball set is the Little Tikes 3-in-1 Triple Splash T-Ball Set. You can use it as a standard batting tee. Once your child masters that, it has a foot pedal that you step on to pitch the ball upwards. And for extra fun on a hot summer day, there’s also an option to have the ball suspended by a stream of water!

Automatic pitching: If your child grows out of using a stationary batting tee, you may want something that pitches the ball as well. There are also T-ball batting tees that can pitch the ball to you. The Fisher-Price Grow to Pro Triple Hit Baseball is a battery-powered unit that pitches the ball a distance of 10 feet! It can also pop the ball upwards so that you practice hitting fungoes!

T-ball set with bases: There are also T-ball sets that come with a pitcher’s plate, 3 bases, and home plate. The Franklin Sports MLB Teeball Starter Set has all of these accessories, as well as a rebounder net and adjustable tee. And when you’re done, it all folds up into a convenient carrying case.

A T-ball set is simple enough for even a child to set up and use. But, there are still some pointers to keep in mind:
Don’t play indoors: Even if the ball is made from foam rubber, avoid the temptation to let your child play ball indoors. A swing from even a plastic bat can end up causing damage to delicate items in your home.
T-ball supplies: If anything happens to the items in your T-ball set, you can also buy items separately. There are T-ball baseballs, with a durable synthetic leather cover and stitching much like a professional baseball. You can also select a T-ball glove, for either right-handed or left-handed players, and in different sizes depending on your age or position. And there is also a PowerNet Baseball and Softball Practice Net, to allow you to hit a ball as hard as you like. It’ll catch it for you, and save you the effort of having to chase after it!

Easy storage: There are some sets that allow you to hang the base of the batting tee on the wall. You can then insert the parts of the T-ball set into the base. The Little Tikes T-Ball Set comes with 5 extra plastic balls, and has a base with this type of design, to keep all of the parts of the set together.

We looked at some of the offerings in the MSN list of the best T-ball sets. Even if your child doesn’t end up playing in a T-ball or Little League, a T-ball set is a great way for a child to develop hand-eye coordination (a welcome change from video games!).
