Many people start their day with a cup of coffee or tea. But, over time, these beverages tend to stain your teeth. There are kinds of toothpaste with whitening agents, as well as teeth-whitening mouthwashes. These products usually contain peroxide that breaks down the stains on your teeth. But, they’re not in contact with your teeth for very long, so their effectiveness is limited. If you want to break up serious staining, or if you want striking results in just a week or two of treatment, a teeth whitening kit might be what you need.
We’ll see that there are a variety of teeth whitening kits, including teeth whitening gels that you use with a blue LED light for more effective whitening. There are also adhesive strips of whitening agents that you apply to your teeth and remove after a few minutes. They’re certainly much less expensive than a trip to a dentist or oral hygienist. We’ll investigate how some of them work, and see what customers say about the results they received. Getting sparkling white teeth is within everyone’s reach!
Looking at the products in the Best Reviews Guide list, we see that there are two main types of teeth whitening kits on the market:
Whitening Strips: There are adhesive strips that typically contain hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide, as well as a small amount of sodium hydroxide (lye). You attach the strip to your teeth for around 30-60 minutes, once a day for around 20 days. The strips allow you to drink water and talk without anyone noticing! The Crest 3D Whitestrips contain 44 strips, where you attach one strip to your upper teeth, and one strip to your lower teeth. Some brands of whitening strips dissolve after 15 minutes, so there is no chance of overusing the product.

LED-activated gel: Some teeth whitening products are LED-activated. They work by shining a blue light on your teeth. This blue light helps to break down the staining on your teeth and makes them whiter. The gel can come in a couple of different forms:
Pen form, as in the SmileDirectClub Teeth Whitening Kit. You twist the bottom of the pen, and a droplet of the whitening gel comes out on the pen’s brush. You then apply it to your teeth, insert the teeth tray into your mouth, and apply the LED light for 5 minutes, twice a day, for a week.

Syringe form: There are also kits where you apply the whitening gel from a syringe onto the teeth tray, instead of directly onto your teeth. An example of such a kit is the Auraglow Teeth Whitening Kit. The gel contains 35% carbamide peroxide. The gel itself will whiten your teeth, but the LED light gets 10x better results!

Here are some impressions of customers about the teeth whitening kit that they bought:
Powering the LED light: In the whitening kits that use an LED light, there are two options for powering the device. Some use a USB connection between your smartphone to power the LED light in the middle of use. (Some customers were disappointed when they discovered that it would only hook up properly to an Android device, but not an iPhone.) Others have a rechargeable battery inside, to let you power it up before use. Some versions have a timer in the device, to turn off the LED light when the 5-minute treatment is over. (This is a feature of the SmileDirectClub Whitening Kit.)
Length of time that you’ll see results: Some of these products promise that your teeth will stay white for as long as 12 months, while others only ensure that results will last for 6 months.
Here are some pieces of advice when selecting a teeth-whitening kit, as well as tips on using them:
Don’t overuse whitening products: Even if you want to get results faster, it’s not recommended to use the whitening strips more than the amount suggested. They can cause your teeth to lose enamel, and make your teeth overly sensitive. The same applies to the whitening gel–if you leave it on too long, it will reach the pulp of your teeth and cause pain.
Gel versus strips: Some customers complain about their teeth being whitened unevenly when they used whitening strips. This is because the strips don’t fit the contours of your teeth, and there can be nooks and crannies where the strip doesn’t reach. For uneven teeth, a whitening gel may be able to achieve more uniform results.
Whitening trays: For the whitening gel to work properly, it has to get to all of the crevices on and between your teeth. There are teeth whitening kits that have a teeth whitening tray that is “universal”, to fit anyone’s teeth. But, there are also kits that include a Thermaform custom mouthpiece tray. You put them in boiling water, and they become malleable enough to fit your mouth perfectly. The Cali White Store Whitening Kit includes both types of teeth whitening trays.
We went through some of the teeth whitening kits available nowadays. If used properly, they should remove stains from your teeth, without causing your teeth to become overly sensitive or damage your teeth’s enamel. These kits use the same ingredients that you’ll expect from a professional dental hygienist, but for much less. Try one out today!
