Let’s say you’re hiking and you have to go through water. Or if you’re sailing or kayaking. Or just simply walking along a beach, or playing paddleball or volleyball--you want some sort of protection for your feet from any sharp objects, like seashells and other debris (like litter and broken glass). You don’t want to ruin expensive sneakers, and you certainly don’t need heavy hiking boots. A pair of water shoes are perfect for situations such as these. They’re better than a pair of flip-flops, since they fit more securely on your feet, without slipping off. And water shoes provide protection for your entire foot, unlike sandals, which leave most of your foot exposed.
Water shoes are typically made from a non-absorbent synthetic material, and have a mesh upper so that they won’t get soaked. The water just flows through the mesh. Some water shoes also have holes in the soles, for even more water flow. But they also offer good traction, even on wet, slippery surfaces. And you’ll be surprised at how flexible and lightweight they can be!
We’ll look at some of the features of water shoes, to help you make the right decision when purchasing a pair. It'll help you:

Water shoes will usually have a mesh upper, so that water will drain through them easily. But we can divide between laced and slip-on versions:
Laced: Water shoes that have laces won’t require to be tied. Instead, they have a drawstring that you tighten. An example is the Dreamcity Men’s Water Shoes. There is also a plastic “lace locker”, with a button to lock it in place, so that the lace won’t get loose on you.

Slip-on: There are also water shoes that you just slip onto your feet, such as the Vifuur Water Sports Shoes. The material is surprisingly elastic, so they stretch to fit on your foot.

Insole can slip out: Some people complain that the sockliner, or insole, may tend to slip out of the shoe. This is so that it can be removed, so that it will dry out quickly and not spawn bacteria or mold. But some prefer a one-piece design, without such a removable insole.
Good to switch off with boots: You can use water shoes for hiking. But, some people who take hiking seriously carry their water shoes along with them, and hike in boots when they’re on rough terrain. When they get to a body of water, they switch off to their water shoes. This ensures that the water shoes will last longer.
Unisex: Some brands of water shoes will be suitable for both men and women. This is especially so with the slip-on type.
Inexpensive: You’ll usually be able to purchase water shoes for less than $30. It’s a wise investment, since you won’t be afraid of getting them ruined in harsh conditions.
Sockliner: Some water shoes have a sockliner--a piece of added material, that comes in between the sole of your foot and the inside of the shoe. With a sockliner, you won’t have to wear socks for the shoe to be comfortable. Dreamcity’s shoes have a ComforDry sockliner, to both cushion your foot, and to keep your foot cooler and drier.
Solyte: You’ll see shoes that feature a “Solyte” midsole. (“Solyte” is an abbreviation of the words “So light”, or “Sole light”.) It’s a material made and patented by the sports shoe company, Asics. Solyte is made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), which is lighter than other synthetic alternatives.
Even can swim in them: It might seem strange, but people say that they can even manage to swim with their Aleader water shoes on! But, if you do serious aerobics in the water, they may tend to slip off.
